The Season of Perpetual Hope
The leaves have changed and started dropping, the Belgian weather has been consistently inconsistent and festive lights have started appearing throughout the city, the festive season is upon us. And although I am looking forward to my holiday traditions, it feels that this year has
had a more somber tone considering the ongoing conflicts in our world.
In a scene from my all time favorite holiday movie, Home Alone, one of the main characters is stuck in an airport, trying desperately to get back to her son. She faces challenge after challenge and despite being frustrated and tired she refuses to take no for an answer and says, “This is the season of perpetual hope!”
Waiting is hard, but advocating and working towards a future of peace and love is worth it.
During this season, no matter what holiday you celebrate (or don’t celebrate) people tend to be a little bit nicer, more generous and welcoming – this gives hope for a better 2024.
Within our NIC community, we have all received an EARLY gift in that one of our most engaged and active members has volunteered to be the new vice president! It has been my great pleasure to serve as the vice president for the past three years, and I couldn’t be happier to pass this role on to such a kind and loving person.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday season!
Cheers,
Liz
